Top Ten Games that will Ruin a Friendship (M4)

Let’s face it, many of us have to choose between our games and our friends, and sometimes games are more important. I have the picture-perfect list of 10 games that can help you whittle down your friendships and make it so you don’t have to have the unfortunate burden of a social life. 10. Minecraft (PC, Xbox, Mobile) This one really depends on how you play it. Unfortunately, not everyone cooperates, and if you have friends who aren’t nice, they will spend most of the game trying to destroy your hard work and you. There’s nothing like digging a staircase down into the ground only to look back at your friend who has poured lava down after you. Trailer: Click here 9. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (GameCube) While I usually do my best to try and save the land in this game, some men just want to watch the world burn. So while I do my best to try and complete the objective in each level, one of my friends grabs the fire rod and starts torching everything and me along with it. Also count the fact that you are constantly in competition to have the most Force Gems, and your friends will have a lot of fun screwing you over. Trailer: Click here 8. Goldeneye 007 (Nintendo 64) Besides the obvious reason of having the one friend who always picks Oddjob, everyone has been the victim of being killed without a gun. And everyone has been the victim of that one friend who camps at the body armor and survives by running back to pick it up before anyone else can grab it. You’ll notice that every entry on this list has “that one friend.” If you can’t figure out which one of your friends is “that friend,” it might be you, so I hope you learn from this. The game loads and he immediately takes off Leroy Jenkins-style and the two bots follow him, before I can even realize what happened. I begged him to wait, but he refused to stop, and I was immediately grabbed by a zombie and ripped to shreds. In a game where you depend on others, you’ll see the worst of humanity come out of them. What's worse is that if you play online, your friend can be a zombie, which can increase the grief even more! Trailer: Click here 6. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) This isn’t so much a case of the game itself causing friendships to end, it’s setting up the game to begin with! One person wants no items, one person wants all items, one person wants just some of the items. This person wants to play on Final Destination, the other wants to play on Hyrule Temple, and another wants it on random. So many fights have happened over this game before the game is even started! I’ve even heard people argue over whether to play a stock or time match. I would not be surprised if someday, entire countries go to war over how this game should be played. Trailer: Click here 5. Contra (NES) As a kid, I actually had a friend stop talking to me for a few days because of this game. Contra is already a difficult game, and having a friend there can sometimes just add to the frustration. Whether it be because they went up the screen too fast causing you to die, or they just stole your life, it always seemed like they were out to troll you. However, the worst was when your impatient friend would hit start before you could put in the code for 30 lives. This game was one of the original friendship enders. Trailer: Click here 4. New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U) It doesn’t matter if you are trying to be a dick or not in this game, someone is going to end up getting someone else killed. It seemed like a perfect idea. Do a Mario game with four people. But, unfortunately they allowed the other players to interact with each other, resulting in people bumping into each other, knocking each other down holes, and stealing power ups, and generally just causing mayhem. Now of course, this is the sequel to the original, but the frustration is increased when one friend takes control of the Wii U GamePad in “boost mode.” The person on the GamePad is to assist the players in completing the level by adding platforms and freezing enemies, but it won’t take long for boredom to set in, and they quickly turn from helpful friend to dickish troll. Trailer: Click here 3. Battletoads (NES) If there is one game that defines the phrase “don’t help me,” it’s Battletoads. Usually when playing a co-operative game, the point is that the other player can help you and you can progress further. Battletoads takes that idea, and says “SCREW THAT!” This game is 10-times harder with a friend as not only can you hurt each other, but if one of you runs out of lives, you BOTH have to go back to beginning of the level. And this is a hard game, so unless you are both superstars, you’re going to want to choke each other out at some point. Trailer: Click here 2. Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo 64) This is a game where it’s almost more fun to be in last than it is to be in first. Why? Because items, that’s why! There’s nothing more deliciously satisfying than throwing out a blue shell on the last lap, or using a lightning bolt right before someone goes over that one jump in Wario Stadium. That’s right, I am “that friend” in this game. Throw in all the other items, and battle mode to boot, and you have a game that can ruin any semblance of a friendship that you might have had. You can steal a star from someone in one turn, and at the end of that turn, be on their team for a mini-game. You must choose your friends and enemies carefully. Trust no one, show no mercy, and always be prepared to get screwed by Chance Time. And there you have it. I know people probably have their own ideas, but this is MY list based off MY choices. So of course it won't be the same as yours. Trailer: Click here my widget for counting
